Evaluation (First Draft)

Evaluation. Over the duration of the course we have had one main aim to come up with an idea for a creative enterprise. Along the way we learned about all the things necessary to set up a creative business, from legal requirements to finances. We also had to make sure that we completed some practical work that would help develop our skills in the creative industry. Fairly early on in the year we were tasked to make a short film which we titled ‘Hollow’. This was the first time that we had worked as a whole group, as a whole the process was quite smooth but did have some small issues which for a first time is expected. One of the things I think we actually did well was coming up with the idea, it did take a few lessons to get the main plot points out with a few different variants of the idea being thrown around but this did mean the main idea evolved. When it came down to filming although we got through it we had problems, like no real shoot plan and that not everyone fully unders...

Cultural Policy affect on business

Cultural policy affect on my business  Cultural policy in basics is following new rules and guidance given out by the government. In 2020 the government was constantly changing advice to company's when the first lockdown came about every company pretty much stopped and that means that new ways of filming advertisement or any creative project had to be evaluated. One way around this is switching to being just a company that edits footage sent in by business at a reduced cost to the clients. If ways of going to locations is found the production will have to fully follow every bit of covid guidance from face masks to social distancing, as Covid regulation and would have to provide both masks and other 'PPE', any shared equipment will also have to be fully sanitised between uses which means we will have to supply disinfectant wipes or sprays to keep everything clean. Another problem with the Covid-19 situation is financing as business who have not been operating might not have ...

Website feedback

Image
I asked some friends to look at my website and they picked up on some things mainly spelling errors. It was pointed out that I needed to capitalised Adobe and that I had the wrong spelling of 'Suite' . make had to be changed to 'making' for it to make sense and flow. Products lines changed to Product lines just so that it makes sense. Small issue in this section where I had put business where I needed to put 'Businesses' for it to make sense. Email Feedback of Business Plan

Image
Email Response from Radar Films founder Chris Rawson  Dear Luke, Thanks for your email. I agree with you that it’s a great way of making a business, but you also need to realise that the market is very competitive. You’ll need to find some way of differentiating yourself. In my case that’s because I have a drone…I get a lot of business from people who want drone footage and I then upsell. If I were starting again with drones, I would get an FPV unit, as that’s the next thing. The branding looks good. You don’t need the ‘best’ equipment, you need the most appropriate equipment. If you are going to commit to it, you should spend the money and get the right kit in the beginning, otherwise you will end up spending more. You should also register for VAT so it costs less upfront. I reckon you need x2 decent cameras with 2 different lenses -something like a 24-70 zoom and something really high quality in prime – I use a 50mm F1.4. Consider a probe lens too. You’ll need two tripods and at...

Finance Sheet   <--(Link to Finance sheet) (Mainly on Cash flow tab) Bank Loan Payment research  This is a HSBC small business loan outline that i put into a business loan calculator to figure out a rough estimate of of much would have to be payed back each month (the minimum amount) https://www.capalona.co.uk/calculators/business-loan-calculator/#bob https://www.business.hsbc.uk/en-gb/finance-and-borrowing/credit-and-lending/small-business-loan Based on the rough price list that I implemented into my website and for the finance sheet im going to be simple and say I make a 1 sale of each item a month. Princing changes and additions: Employees. Certain products might require more than just me, in these cases we wont just have extra employees who we have to constantly pay for we will seek help with freelancers on a one off payments per production. Extra staff will mean the price of a production will go up

Website Research

Image
https://www.skeletonproductions.com/ Skeleton Productions website uses a vibrant Blue, Pink and White colour scheme. The colour scheme gives it a bright and interesting look without turning childish. Skeletons top information bar is kept simple and easy which enables it to be self explanatory on whats inside each label.  When the website is opened you our instantly greeted with a shortcut to their showreel which gives a quick overview of what the company does. Along with everything about what they have done they also offer insights into how they work and what the believe in. The end of the main page has shortcuts to ways that people can contact them to find out pricing and also has some links to social medias run by the company. The Website as a whole is very easy to navigate and has good readability throughout with added interesting features thrown in. some areas in the labeled areas do have large areas of just white which make it look unfinished. Separation between each segment i...

My logo Designs

Image
This design started off as two 'L' and I trialed connecting them by using some rectangles which gives a slight optical illusion of depth. I played around with some different colour to differentiate the layers as well as trying a black backdrop rather than a white backdrop. I also trialed a white and black style on top of a 3.5mm film real backdrop. My favorite out of these four is the first one that has a white background as it feels simple and easy to understand. but I do like the use of the film strip behind the logo as it adds to the fact that its a production company. some of these logos would need to be adjusted to fit into social media profile photos but when it comes down to a website/banner they would all work just fine.

My Creative Enterprise (Task 10)

Image
A SWOT Strength: Filming content with quality audio. I also have a good knowledge of how a wide range of different equipment works. I also have developed skills in premiere pro so can edit my own videos. other people see my knowledge of how equipment works and its setup. I also am always ready when called on. Weakness: Limited access to higher quality equipment to increase quality of content. I could personally improve on being more informative to clients and people I work with.my confidence is possibly something that people would describe as a weakness.     Opportunities: With a growing need for a good online presence the need for good quality advisement also grows, so a business that offers both in one package and can do majority of the work in house isn't often seen. When creating advertisement you will always have to adapt to new trends to make sure content being posted is relevant.    Threats: Bigger company's also spotting the gap or seeing your work...

Logo examples

Image
A bunch of Logo designs found online. Large production companys Logos  Warner bros. The Warner bros logo does have a few different versions from the simple 'WB' being in the shield. I like the simplistic use of shapes and prefer the blacka nd white version that doesnt have the band saying "WARNER BROS. TELEVISION". They also seem to keep the the width of line perfectly even throughout. You can also tell that with the blue and yellow colour scheme is to aim towards a younger audience and the more contempory design of the black and white logo will appeal more towards newer and possibly more gamer / wealthy simplistic people.   Impress Video.   The logo it self is very simple with a nice font in the navy blue colour is nice and effective. The double play button that resembles fast forward shows that they think that they our leading the way in areas and our ahead of the game. The fast forward symbol is also sometimes the larger focal point of the logo. This logo is fairly...

What is the DCMS and what do they do? The Department for Culture, Media and Sport and is a department of government. Other considerations for businesses (Task 8)

Finance - what sources of funding exist within the creative industries? Depending on what type of creative industry you work in there is different revenue streams that can be accessed. A simple way anyone can get some money is by taking a loan out, if the loan is taken out as part of the company the bank might ask for certain assurences that can sometime be hard to prove. There is then organisations like the BFI that have access to a certain amount of funds a year that they could distribute to you to make a certain production, along with creative england who like to invest in the upcoming talent. If your film production can be fully classed as being british it can mean you can gain access to the UKs film tax relief which could help lower overall costs of a production. Insurance - what types of insurance exist for the creative industries? Professional Indemnity Insurance, this will cover you in the event of a client not being happy with something. The insurence covers you even if you o...

What is a regulatory body and what is a regulatory framework? A regulatory body is either a public organisation or a government agency that regulates a specific sector. Often regulatory body's will have set standards and guidelines which have to be followed and if not they can impose sanctions against anyone that breaks them. Regulatory framework is a set of rules set out by the regulatory body which have been approved by the government. These rules can include laws, regulations, decrees and policies. What is Ofcom, what does it do and what framework does it produce and follow? Ofcom is a government-approved regulatory body for screen and radio in the uk. https://www.ofcom.org.uk/about-ofcom ( add screen shot of about from ofcom) Ofcom draws up a code that every production that is under there watch has to follow, The code is updated every few years to adapt to the viewers beliefs and feelings, The code has 10 main sections covering things like 'Harm and offence' to commer...
